Filter interruptus

What about a battery backup with a 2.5 hour runtime? You could set it up to charge during cheap times, but run off battery during expensive times. Just an idea.

I have my electric engineer friend working on it. A regular computer UPS will be drained in a matter of 10-15 minutes with my 200 watts water pump. A large UPS will co$t a lot. (Also, another thread not long ago stated that UPS produce square waves or electricity, while pumps motor need round waves or something like that.)

I am looking for some kind of medium-large capacity accumulator, but I must also consider how much it costs. And, if I manage to get a large enough battery, I could be able to charge it during the night and run most electric activities under battery backup.

A project yet to be matured.

The issue you need to consider is called a power on spike when you turn a device on and off it costs more when the power spikes so you are most likly saveing nothing

We'll see. The new bill will be coming around next week.

During the previous month, when I tried this set up. my power comsuption went from and average of arpund 540KWH to 432KwH.

Solar panels... batteries.... I could EASILY daydream my way to spending thousands in order to be environmentally aware and reduce my power bill by a couple of dollars!! :D

Just for S's and G's... how about going back and forth in between a smaller (drawing less power) and a larger pump/filter etc? Due to heating issues, I need the heater on at all times and therefore need to be circulating water at all times. Not sure how bulky this would make things (and it certainly depends on how big your tank is) but it's an idea???

Also, how about a "low" setting vs a "Full blast" setting on the pump. sort of a rhiostat in-line... so you could dial that baby down during certain hours???? I'm definitely no electrician (although I just rewired my AC adapter for my laptop!! woot woot!!) but i'll kick the idea out there for someone smarter than me to shoot down!!!
