Filter Maintenance

those are the same people that put goldfish in bowls, and toss 6 oscars in a 29 gallon tank..

I agree 100%, but it's still frustrating nonetheless. It's more frustrating for the fact that I just picked up a set of moon lights and installed them just before the tank went cloudy, so now, as you can imagine, it is tough to see the true effect of the moonlights.

very true... but in aquaria, good things DO come to those who wait. i don't think this will stick around for more than a few days if you continue the water changes.. ensure you are properly conditioning the new water, and try to not overfeed them, those are the 2 biggest things.

and trust me, i know all about waiting it out, i started my fishkeeping as a bright-eyed 5 year-old before i knew anything about cycling tanks and proper filtration, when a HOB was like a super mega filter, and i was NOT prone to waiting. not implying in any way that youre immature, only that patience comes with time.. i know it's a catch 22, but thats how it works.. you will be very pleased when you wait it out and your tank comes out crystal clear and beautiful.

If you are worried about cloudyness in the tank and entertaining guests, you can do 3 50% water changes in 4 hour intervals. That should hold your cloudyness down for a bit. If you are seeing NitrAtes in the tank then i sugjest this. DONT ADD ANYTHING to the tank. Additives are chemicals that might adversley affect your tank while it is in such a new and pubesecent stage in its life. The chemistry in the tank is obviously unstable. Dont do anything that would ADD to the chemistry and mess with it any more. Just let nature run its course.

it's been cloudy for about a week or so now. I've tried to do water changes about every other day. I'll be honest, I have stayed consistant on this though.
I've dropped the feedings down to every 3rd day. I have also been told it could take up to a month to clear.
