filter media layering

I got a used Aquaclear 300 and it only came with the coarse foam. This will be my first time using multiple media materials and I was wondering how to layer them.

My question is to how to effectively place the Biomax material.

My plan (top to bottom)

Water flowing out
Cottony filter --> can't describe this any better
Biomax (or any other cylindrical material)
Fine filter
Coarse foam
Water flowing in

Put the Biomax on top of the "cottony" media.

By cottony, I think you mean the fine white filter floss.

In addition to the Biomax tubes that came with my aquaclear 110, I have a couple handfuls of Seachem Matrix which is excellent stuff
