Ok, since dealing with my green water algae bloom, i removed the regular cartridge in the HOBs and in favor stuck in some of the media pad material I bought at a lfs. I'm just curious if I should continue to use this stuff at cut your own length or swap back over to the cartridge type of media?

What I have done was wrap it three times and suffed it in the holding area. Once in there, I seperated the layers a bit. Good practice or not?

Seems the more I get involved, the more I leave old school (for me at least) ways behind and start doing newer things.

I would do which ever you like better, i don't buy cartridges for my hob filters but that is because I am cheap and the alternatives work just as well. The only time I use the cartridges is if I need carbon to remove meds. HTH
