Does anybody know if you can use the polyester "pillow filling stuff" as a filter media? I was hoping to stuff some in the reservoir of a small Whisper HOB filter.
Ok..thanks. I would use the same, but the price plus the shipping (I would have to order it because nobody around here carries it) would be a good bit more then 99 cents at walmart. And to a poor college student any little bit helps.
Anywhere that sells fish supplies should have cheap filter floss. Its like a buck. Most people use it on top of other layers as a final water polisher for the tiny particles.
Yeah, polyfill from walmart. Also, Check out the rolls of quilt batting (spelling?) you know the padding in quilts. Its good for making bags for special filtration substances for emergencies. (zeolite, carbon, phosphate remover, etc)
I got a bag of "low loft" batting which is about 1/4" thick. I cut it into squares and fit it down into my aquaclear 20 after the sponge. I use 2 layers for normal filtration. 4-8 layers for removal of an algeal bloom or post vacuming debris in the water. that much does clog quickly but it makes the water as clear as air (crisp winter mountain air, not that murkey city stuff ). In fact i thought the water ran out somehow leaving an empty tank the first time I tried it.
