Filter noise

I heard that some filters are very quite. But is it still quite when you factor in the flow of water from the filter to the water below?

I have a emperor filter with a biowheel on my tank and as long as I keep the water level high enough it is almost whisper quite. If the water level is low or I have the splash bar on high the its a little bit noisy but all around is very quiet.

I like the gently splashing sound. Since I don't have any fish to worry about jumping out, I leave the hood open to listen to the sound. But my Aquaclear doesn't make any mechanical whirring type noises though, thankfully, so in that respect its quite quiet.

Just keep the water level high enough and you won't hear it.

My filter is dead silent. My aquarium makes zero noise whatsoever and I love it! No water trickle sound, certainly no air pumps, none of that. Well worth the higher cost of the cannister filter. No need to worry if my water level begins to lower (not that I would let it), because the exhaust lets the water back into the tank way beneath surface level. :bowing: dead silent filter :bowing:

I also have mainly aqua clears, and they are great regarding no noise. I think the closest to the water your filter is, the less noise you will tend to hear. Whispers are also dead silent... no pun intended!

I use HOB's of various types, mostly AC's and Emps. They will run silently for you as long as the water level is high enough. If you have need of lowering the water, sponges will still silence it, but as said earlier cannister will work better with lower water levels.

Noise from tanks is one of the first reasons for my move to canisters, many long-times ago. HOBs are quieter now, no argument. But canisters - at least good canisters - are silent.

Tanks should be seen but not heard in my house.
