the tank i just bought off of craigslist came with an aquatech 30-60 power filter. i just plugged it in to see how the water looked as it fell into the tank, and the ^@(& thing isn't working!!! it makes a god-awful noise (though it lessened when i filled the chamber with water, it's still horrible) and there is no suction whatsoever. it did pull water up into the tube, and i can see it gurgling at the surface of the chamber, but there's no further suction and the water doesn't come out at all. the aquatech website is about as helpful as a banana. any ideas?

(i know it's hard to see, but the tube is full of water, and the top of the "basket" is about an inch below the surface of the water.)

i'll give a plate of cookies to whomever makes this thing work >.>

with the water level that low, there probably isn't enough power to pull it up. bring your water level up to the proper level and i'm sure it will work like a charm

well, crap. i guess this filter ain't gonna do it for this tank. i don't want it higher than a little above half-way, to keep the basking rocks far enough away from the lights. thanks, i guess.

*grumbles as she goes off to find a more suitable filter*

two reasons....

1- water level might be a bit low

2- aquatec filters need to be primed a LOT... fill the chamber up ALL THE WAY manually and see if it works

yeah 1/2 full tank is the reason that brand of filter doesnt have very strong sucking power to start with. you might want to look for a in tank filter that would solve your problem.

i have an in-tank HOB in my other tank; i was attempting to use this one cuz it came with the tank. i guess i could pick up another one.
