I just bought a Magnum HOT 250 - I hooked it up but the flow was really, really strong.. sadly, it eviscerated a minnow. I've decided to get a Marineland Bio Wheel 60.

Can anyone with this set-up tell me how much space it takes up, how it works, etc... I had a hose tied into my magnum 250 which I was going to plug into the exhaust on my Fluval 404 -- but the hose connected to the Mag leaked all over the place and it wouldn't work.

Thx

I don't know how this relates to your attempt to hook the Magnum to your Fluval, but for what it's worth:

I almost bought the Bio for my Magnum HOT, but I found out that the Emporer 400 was cheaper than the Magnum Bio Wheel add on.

IE: at BigAlsOnline.com the Bio Wheel Pro 60 was $45.99 and the Marineland Emporer 400 was $42.99

I have several Penguins in my house and I couldn't see the sense in buying an add-on just to make something I already paid for work better. So I decided to just replace the Magnum.

I went to the LFS, where the Emporer was 88$ and they had a Penguin 330 for $46.00. I thought that the 400 was a little overkill for my 36 bowfront. I bought the Penguin and I've been very happy with my decision.

As for the Magnum: I *hated* how strong the flow. My FISH hated how strong the flow was. We had to turn it so that it bounced off the glass and I still didn't like it and neither did they.

Blargh. None of this probably helps you, but sometimes it's nice to rant :D

what is hot magnum for anyway??

the extra filter was because my tank is 125 gallons and the fluval 404 is made for 60-100 gallon tanks. I think I need the extra filtration.

remove nozzle

If you take the nozzel off, just have the open tube, the flow will be a bit less (same volume, lower velocity) I have mine directed along the back wall, just below the surface of the water. You cna turn it to hit the wall a bit more to break the flow further.

Just hard to do

No trick, it is just hard, there is a c shaped clamp I think.

Let me make sure I understand (thanks btw for the advice thus far..)

Ok, there is the nozzle which attached to the filter. The Magnum HOT has one with the little thing on the end which can be rotated 360 degrees. Remove THAT and connect the rest of the nozzle to the filter?

I think what I might try to do is, remove the end of the nozzle, connect a plastic tube from it to the out-take on my Fluval 404. On the Fluval, I bought one of those systems, forget their name, but you can sculpt and shape your intake/outtake by attaching peices here and there.
