Hello everyone..

I am in need of a new filter(s) for my 55g freshwater tank..

right now, im running 2 whisper 30-60 model filters...

id like to upgrade.. iv heard of the penguin bio wheels but was kind of leaning towards a canister filter..

i would like one that is quiet, since the tank is in my room.

any recommendations would be really helpful, thanks :)

Yeah, a canister would be great for your 55gal tank.

fluval 405 is a great canister and if you ever should need a part they are very easy to find.

I'd say 5 or 6 FX5's. Well, maybe 7. jk =)

Id get 2 Emperor 400's and a sponge filter. =)

If you have a planted tank the canister will create less surface agitation, making your plants happy. You could use it in addition to you hang on back filters. It should be less expensive to operate, not using proprietary filter media.

The bio wheel creates a home for good bacteria. When you change filter cartridges it allows the bacteria colony to continue when new media is added. Usually I just change one cartridge of a dual cartridge filter system. The old one stays with the bacteria and the new one provides better water flow. A prefilter on intake is just as effective bio filter. Just rinse it off in a bowl of tank water when it is clogged.

Add a canister...I prefer the C-series..say a C-360.

c- series are nice .

I have a c-series and love it. Quiet and works well.
