I Have A 70g With A Fluval 404 Filter. Today When I Did My Wc And I Opened The Filter To Clean The Sponges There Was A Strong Smell Of Ammonia. Has Anyone Had Any Experience With This? It Has Been Running Since About Feb.

I've never had that happen, but maybe you should try cleaning your entire filter, just try to be kind of quick about it, and keep your sponges in some tank water while you do it. There weren't any fish that snuck in and died somehow, were there?

I dont think a fishy produced dangerous level of ammonia in the water is going to produce such a strong smell.

You must be experiencing the common Fishy/earthy/cut lawn/ smell we get from the slimy filter inserts.

My higest amonia levels have been 8 ppm while I was fishlessly cycling my tank and it didn't smell at all. (this level is VERY high for fish)
HTH
hope you find out what it is
Good luck!
