filter too strong for my little betta

That's a good link with such a simple solution. I was wondering if my future dwarf puffer tank filter current would be too strong. Now I know there's an easy solution if that's the case.

I'm glad it worked out for you!

Either put a sponge on the intake of the filter or put something over the output to diffuse the spray a little.

I have a Betta in an Eclipse 3 gallon that had a similar issue. I bought an extra spronge for my AquaClear 50, cut it in half and cut a hole so I could slip it over the intake.

Slowed the current down to a much more comfortable level for him, I just have to remember to take it off and rinse it out ever time I clean the tank or it gets clogged after a good while.

Glad you solved the problem. I was going to ask if the waterfall type filter you have has a control button for flow on it. I have a whisper filter on my minibow 5 gallon and it has a control button on the bottom for flow to either faster or slower flow. My betta is in a 3 gallon Eclipse tank with biowheel and sponge carbon filter. I highly recommend this tank the filtration system is awesome and the flow is very gentle my betta is able to swim around with no problems. Perfect for a betta. The tank has a light that acts like a heater and the filtration system keeps the water super clean. I was able to cycle this tank in 3-4 weeks. So glad you solved your problem. Good luck bettas are wonderful little fish my little guy is in the pic under my name.

Hi, no, there is no control button on my filter. I think it was a silly design for such a small tank. However, the pop bottle fix works perfectly though and was easy to do and doesn't notice in the tank. The betta can swim right underneath it and there are no more current issues. By the way, I think I have the identical twin to your little guy! I'll be making a trip to Petsmart today to try to find out what I need to maintain his 5 gallon tank - hoping to keep him happy and I'm starting from scratch. Unfortunately I don't find the store people too helpful so I'm glad I found this site.
