The tube that draws water into my filter appears very dirty. The water flow is completely fine and there is no problem with blockage. Is there any need to clean this tube or is it ok as long as there is no blockage?

I know they make cleaning tools to clean out those tubes. So I would say that it might be a good idea to clean it.

i clean the tubes to my canisters once every 3 months.. just enough to keep any SERIOUS grunge from building up.. otherwise, they work great. and yeah, the tools they make for cleaning these tubes are similar to baby bottle brushes, only longer and flexible. ;)

and they have hooks on the end to tie fishing line to so that you can draw them through those long hoses

Thanks for the advice! I'll check next time I'm out for the brushes.

even if your filter still is flowing properly, i would still reccomed cleaning your tubes. you dont want that algie spreding everywhere... lol... what i use is a bottle brush.. works great! also try using hot water...

Anyone know if it's algae, it sure looks like it and it looks like it's growing on my moss?
