I am wanting to keep my q-tank filter ready to cycle a tank quickly. My 55 gallon (still waiting on it to finish cycling) has an Aqua-tech 30/60 filter on it. Will there be any harm if I just slip the biofiber & filter packs to the 10 gallon tank down in the empty area of the 30/60 filter that keeps running? I'm assuming that empty area is there for some reason & want to make sure I won't affect the tank in any negative way by doing that.

The other option I would have would be to set up the entire 5/15 filter on the 55 gallon as a second filter unit and switch it over to the q-tank should it become necessary. This would, of course, give that tank some extra filtration too.

I invite your critiques of both options as well as further ideas to help that tank be ready for a quick cycle when needed for a hospital (or fry...)

It certainly doesn't hurt to have alot of filtration, so you might consider just running both filters on the larger tank. However, you would still have to keep extra media in the one filter b/c if you need to set up the QT tank you would want to discard the media used on it, in case there was any disease, etc. So, it would probably just be easiest to keep some extra media in your main filter and set up the QT tank with that when needed.
