Before you decide completely that the filter is a complete thing of the past and does not ever have a chance of working again, take it apart first and clean it. it is possible that there is a clog somewhere along the line(most likely the impeller) and once it is cleaned out and reassembled, it may start running again as if it never had a problem. If this does not work, then keep the air stones going and if you have a power head that will work too. Also float the media in the tank to keep it wet so you do not lose all of the beneficial bacteria that has built up to support life in your aquarium. This will eliminate the possibility of having to cycle your tank all over again. When you do finally get another filter for this tank, and you do manage to get this filter up and going again just to hold you over, you can run it along side the new filter to help seed the new filter. This way, you most likely will not see a disturbance in your water readings.
