Hi Guys I have a Ehiem 2026 at the moment. Love it!!!!! NO probs with it at all. Just revamped my tank & fanced not having the heater spoiling the look .So, I bin out & bought a Ehiem 2128, but have heard that they are trouble, the heater at the bottom breaks down & frys the fish.As I dont want this to happan, I wondered if any one had any thoughts on these kind of filters.I dont know whether to take it back now or give it a try but at £200 its a risky try.

hmm... that's a dilemma... I would suggest maybe using a temp. controller... you can get them on ebay... or you can get some friends with no jobs to watch the temp... maybe parents if they are retired

Two things. The 2128 is a bigger model than the 2126- it is intended for tanks that are 50% larger. You have another alternative to get the heater out, and one that I use with both my 2 2026s. Use and inline heater. It gets installed in the return hose if possible but can be put on the intake side.

Hydor ETH- they come in 200w- 2 models one for 1/2 in. and one for 5/8 inch ID hose and 300w for 5/8 in ID hose.

I use a 2128 and love it. Love it love love it. It's great. I bought it used, 2 years old, and I've been using it for 6 months. The only issue I've had is that the thermometer readout on the control device goes a little haywire during a waster change, and sometimes takes until the next water change for it to work again. It controls the temp fine, it's just that that readout isn't reliable(for example, reads 16C when my glass/ethanol reads 26C when 26C is my setpoint). It's not a problem for me because I'd have the glass/ethanol thermometer in there no matter what.
