anyone use an Ocean Clear canister?

I'm planning my new tank and just looking at options.

in the past I have used Aqua clears and once a fluval canister. I have always ran UGFs but have been reading that a lot of people are not using them? maybe I'll try without this time..

so the Ocean Clear canisters look like a good deal! what else? Rena? Ehiem? Fuval? or a good HOB?

I haven't used any canister but Rena, but I'm very happy with them. I have two now, one on my 75 gal tropical community (plus a HOB) and a new one for my new 20 gal for one oranda.

They are silent, easy to set up and clean. If you're going to a petsmart to buy one, be sure to print out the website price and take it in for a match, you'll save 40%.

Oceans are supposed to be good, though I have not used 'em.

I personally recommend Eheim classics (which I do use).
For those who can't part with enough $ for an Eheim, I recommend Via Aqua (about which I have heard good things from a reputable source).

For my 180 is there ONE canister that can do it? Or should I run a canister plus a HOB?

Do you have a 180 gal or liter ? a 180 liter would put you at about 47 gal. and 1 canister would work, 180 gal would require 2 canisters, or some sort of combination of hob's.....:)

I have neither yet but I am considering this 180 Gallon. the smallest I will get is 100 but more than likely 180 or bigger

you'd need two canisters on a 180

IMO anything over 100 gal. would need mutable canisters and I would also add some kind of a bio wheel power filter like an penguin 350 or emperor 400....:)

Thanks guys,

on my old 180, I think I just had two of whatever they call the biggest Aqua clear (HOB) and the undergravel. But I did constistent water changes and it was not very stocked
