Is it okay to use the window screening to cover a power filter so I don't kill cherry shrimp babies? I'm deathly afraid that it will be full of some poisonous chemical. Or should I just get me a sponge filter? There will also be endlers and some low light plants.

filter media bags will also work, and you know that they are suited for using in aquariums.

you could get a sponge to put over the intake.

I thought about the filter media bags but I think it's cosmetically odd looking. I like the sponge idea. I think I can put it on without it looking weird. Thanks for the suggestions.

I used some filter sponges. They are black and you can cut them to fit.

I use both sponges and media bags to cover the intake...either can be cut to fit and work well.
