Hi,
I will finally be picking up my tank sometime next week!!! Will be doing fishless cycling but what about the filter? I've been looking at the Eheim Pro II, Eheim Classic 2217 and the Filstar xP3(I've never heard of Filstar).
Does anyone of these work better then the other? Should I have 2 filters? Will be planting the tank with some easy to keep plants too. Not going to use CO2 right now. Will have at least 8 Sterbai Cory's, still not sure what the main fish will be though, got time to check things out I guess.
Sooo many fish and only one tank...for now...

there's a great thread about a SunSun canister filter from an ebay seller.

I have an Eheim 2217 and a Whisper 3 on my 75 gallon. I like backup filtration, just in case something goes wrong - beyond that, an added filter can help keep the tank stable when you clean out one or the other - never do them at the same time and you will always have a good bacteria base. Also, extra filtration is almost never a bad thing in any setup. I love my Eheim. I'm not a fan of the Whisper 3, but it came with the tank, so I went ahead and used it. I will probably be replacing it either with another Eheim or with a Sun Sun, as they are supposedly very similar to the Eheim. I definitely like having a canister on this bigger tank - much better filtration and water movement than an HOB.

Thanks RBC, that's what I was thinking but wasn't sure. Years back I had one outside filter on a 50 gal. Oscar tank, changed water almost every week and vacuumed the bottom of the tank, I loved them but quite messy! Good idea for back up filtration last summer we had lots of black outs on our block.
Thanks RW, will check out the sunsun, have been seeing some folks talk about it.

I use a Eheim 2217 and a Emperor 400 on my 75's. The 2217 would probably be enough by themselves, but I like to double up on filters. Plus, the Eheim don't need to be cleaned as often with the HOB running too.

Thanks 67C, I'm glad to see at least I'm on the right track:)
