I am getting a used 40gal long from my LFS. I have a 55 gal with an iron stand that holds 2 tanks. It is made to hold two 55's but I was told it was a pain because there is little to no room in order to clean the tank.

Anyways, I haven't got the tank but I just ordered a Emperor 280
I have 2 aquaclear 500s on a 125 and whispers on another 55. And I have a hot magnum pro and a pengiun 330 on my other 55--but this will be the first time I use an Emporer.

I am a big fan of extra filtration, I have two filters on all my big tanks- I wan wondering if anyone had any suggestions for another filter, or do you think one will be enough

I would put one of those AC 500s on the new tank to help it cycle faster and then switch once it is cycled and maybe add another Emp 280 if you like overfiltration.

Rena Filstar xP-1 would be perfect for a canister filter. Canisters are great for planted tanks since there's much lesss surface disturbance. Here's a link: Filstar xP-1

Joe, why not an xP2? An xP1 seems kinda light for 40g L.
xP-2 is right... I went to Rena's website and forgot they list Liters on the site and not Gallons..
