Currently I have a Emperor 400 running on my 55g tank. That isn't enough filtration for the bio load so i plan to upgrade...

A Fluval Canister filter I don't know which model yet.

Two Sponge Filters

An Under gravel Filter.

Would that be OK for my tank?
Also what runs the Under gravel filter?? An air pump?

Current Stocking:
2 Plecos 3"
1 Albino Shark 2"
1 Angelfish 2"

THANKS!

get a pump that will allow you have the nozzle go down to the undergravel tubes. this way, it forces water to go down and then through the gravel, making the gravel essentially another filter medium. aquaclear and penguin make powerheads that do that.

sponge filters rock; they are underrated and they are easy to use- just get an air pump and voila! instead of a canister, you could just get another emperor 400. or if you want a canister, get a fluval 305 or 405( look for the old 304 and 404 too- they sell cheap on ebay now, even new!). they sell them on ebay pretty cheap.

You are talking all of the above or just one of the above? a decent canister is all I would get. UGFs need an air pump.

i wanted to do all of the above.

Basically, I plan on stocking my tank with African Chiclids and I knowt hey need a lot of filtration so I figured I used this setup. I am almost sure that I will need the Undergravel filter because there is a lot of "Grime" that gets under the gravel, even though I do routine water changes.

No I don't plan on keeping it because I personally don't like it.

Alright, I figured that. Should I upgrade the pump I have?
