I have a 55 gallon marine setup with a Seaclone100 Protien Skimmer, 55 lbs of live rock, three damsels and a clownfish. I want to try doing a reef tank with corals and polyps. I am running two Whisper 60's as filtration. My ammonia and nitrite levels are at 0 and my nitrate level is at 5. everything has been steady for a week or so. MY QUESTION is are the whisper 60's appropriate filtration for this kind of setup? My LFS told me that the whisper 60s are really setup for freshwater and they are insufficient for marine. Can anyone give me the same or different advice??? THANKS!!!

Really, the Whispers aren't even necessary with the setup you have now. The live rock and protein skimmer will provide the filtration for your tank. Add a couple of powerheads for water movement and you're good to go. 55lbs of live rock is good for your size tank. I personally would add more, but that's just me.

I would leave them on there, usually better off with more than less. However there are a few animals that prefer less movement... you or they can usually move them to an area of less movement.
how many gph are the whis[ers?
