Fin Rot, Gill Damage, and maybe dropsy??

As far as the whiskery stuff on your danio, I can't really make it out too well in the picture, but your description sounds like it could be columnaris, which is another bacterial issue. Here is a website with a short description. Could be related to some of the other problems you're seeing (ragged fins, gill damage).

Which of your fish have you been treating with Maracyn and Maracyn 2? Have you seen any improvements with it? If you think it is helping at all I know that you can safely repeat the 5 day dosing. Since you're going to have to do water changes in your quarantine tank, remember to add back as much of the medication that you've removed.

As far as your bottom feeders I would just do more frequent water changes for now if they aren't showing any signs of illness. And I personally can't comment one way or the other on your tetra.

Also, just to make sure we're not missing anything could you post full, current test results for both your main and quarantine tanks (ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, pH)? Sorry, this thread is just getting too confusing for me, it was a long day! :nilly:

Another thing you should try is feeding Jungle Anti-Bacterial medicated fish food. You can use it at the same time as the maracyn treatments and will help eradicate internalized infections. It helped clear up an ongoing issue with my corys. You might have to soak it in garlic oil before you feed it as my fish wouldn't touch it until I did that.

Ok.

My LFS said the whiskery things are barbels- apparently some danios have those? Is this possible?

All the danios and tetras are being treated with the maracyn 1 and 2. I did the water change just before the daily dose, that way I'm -hopefully- not wasting too much of the medication.

The q. tank is probly about .1 right now, 0 nitrites, and low nitrates. (I just did a water change this afternoon, will repeat tomorrow)

The 55 is 0, 0 and about 15 nitrates. Tomorrow i'll be doing a water change on it.

I'll see if i can find the antibacterial food!

Thanks for the advice!

Well has the whiskery thing always been there or is it a recent growth? I don't really know anything about different types of danios, but if it is something that has just recently appeared than it seems like it might be something else.

Also, when I had to do water changes while using the maracyn treatments other people here told me to add back the treatment that was removed, including from previous days. For example, if you're adding a packet a day and do a 25% WC on the 3rd day of treatment you need to add 1.5 packets with the water change (1/4 packet for day one, 1/4 for day two, and 1 for day three since you do the WC before the daily dose).

Hmm.. I don't know how well I explained that, but hopefully you get the idea...?
And I would definitely recommend giving the medicated food a try!

The whisker/barbel things are so tiny i've never noticed them before... but i've spent a lot of time minutely scrutinizing them, which i've never really done before. So they may be new, they may not be. They're so hard to see, it could be either or.

I'm glad you mentioned that about the med's, i'll make sure to do that after i w/c today.

And I'm going to look for the medicated food... hopefully i can get ot my LFS today.

Now this....
Bent spine:

Discoloration:

Any thoughts? I can't find a disease that talks about this...

Bent spine can be a meriad of thinigs. They can range from something as serious as Fish TB to as simple as a physical defect as a fry in development/genetic disorder, or even a physical injury when younger.

Some info on TB:
http://www.fishdeals.com/fish_diseases/curved_spine/

TB was my first thought. I've been fearful of it since I first started losing the fish. I just didn't know if the bent spine in TB was sideways, as in my tetra, or vertical.

Okay, so as far as I can tell, my fish don't show any of this:
loss of scales.
Loss of appetite.
Body wasting Progressive thinness.
Dis-coloration.
Sluggish movement
Folded fins
Lesions on the body.
Dark coloration and granular appearance of the cornea.
Hanging at the surface
Skin defects, including blood spots and open wounds that may ulcerate

However, they may show these:
Curved or Crooked Spine Skeletal deformity. (the one tetra, and i think the danios have more curve to their spine than they started with)
Eye protrusion (in the danios, a bit)
Black spots, or overall dark coloration (in the tetras)

So, is it likely TB, with so few of the symptoms evident? They all still swim actively and eat voraciously. (well, maybe the tetras are getting a bit less eager to eat, but it is hard to tell, and it is not severe enough to lead to weight lose- thus I think it has more to do with a lack of cover from the bullying danios)

Also- is the maracyn1 and 2 causing the ammonia presence in my tank? (iow, is it killing the bacteria?)

I'm running out of ideas as to what to do with these fish. I REFUSE to put them back in the 55 until I'm positive they won't get my bottom feeders sick. But I can't run the 20 gall forever, and the medicine is almost gone (I've been dosing for 10days as of wednesday). I can't afford another 30 dollars to dose for essentially the 3 and 4th times. I'd give them away... ok, maybe i wouldn't just give them away.. but theyre so frustrating!

So, now what?

Also, what can I do to keep this from happening to my fish again? I am absolutely OCD about water changes. The 55 is cycled, well filtered, and I try to feed properly. I quarantined (although apparently not well enough). What else is there to do to keep my fish alive and healthy?

I forgot about this picture... don't know if it helps or hurts...

Bump on the tail of the upper right tetra.

with these sudden symptoms, i think it may be some sort of contaminant in the tank and the smaller fish are more sensitive to it. what is your water source - well or city water? if city, do you have chlorine or chloramine? if well, have you ever gotten it tested? any problems with heavy rainfall or leaks in the well?

i think the cory was probably a separate issue and just an unhealthy fish to start with, not related to current problem.
