I thought that it could be an internal bacterial problem, but the fish has no other symptoms. I've got 3 days before either a re-dose or to try something else. Hopefully I won't need to. I may try 'painting' some meds on his tail after the four days are up.
Anyone care to give a diagnosis of that tail? Also, the instructions for Jungle Fungus Eliminator call for a re-dose after the fourth day. I've seen (online) where people re-dose after 24 hours. Any opinions on that?
When you say painting, do you mean application of med directly on infected areas?
I have mentioned on few previous thread, such application sometimes do have better results than ordinary capsule/tablet application to water.
I cant say for sure wether it will work on your case since I cant seemed render judgement by pics but if you decide to use topical
application, try Bacitracin (ordinary household antibiotic ointment) over Neosporin.
"I always saved whatever prescribed antibacterial ointment i may have used to be used on fish. You can do research thru literatures/online what these ointment treats. Once this is somewhat established, I will use the appropriate ointment according to symptoms."
Make sure to apply just a smear on infected area, not a lot. Just simple smear on both side of fin/tail. Any extra will just fall off since water and oil dont mix well which is another pollutant in the water.
You will probably read others who will say such practice will stress the fish more. No doubt fish will be under stress but if one knows how to catch fish without netting them out (catch them on first try), it could be done in no time. I have not encountered death while this procedure was carried out nor other stress related secondary infections. This depends on how each individual carry out such procedure or the condition of the fish.
I catch wild tropical and local fish s/w fish every summer and on many occassions, I experienced infections which are naturally occurring. By adopting this topical application, simple infections have been eradicated and full recoveries did take place. Even on fins of d seahorse.
I even tried injection on large fish. Why not?
Because one is worry about stress imposed on fish and wont try other procedures/methods when nothing seems to work, I think it defeats of whole purpose of treating/medicating to save our treasures.
Why not even surgery? Of course, not by individual or should I say ill equipped hobbyist.
I have read many thread with issues over fish diease but I am bit concern with overuse/ill use of med. All these med used by hobbyist seems to go down the drain with out proper treatment of medicated water. Anyone with some biology/chemistry background would agree that simple few steps taken by us will reduce the possible pollutants being dumped into our enviroment.
Yes, even our sewers are bio active. Constant exposure to such med can pose problem as far as effectiveness of our medications, not to mention the disturbances to our eco system.
BTW, track back if you followed the instruction thoroughly/properly. If not used properly, med will not work. Dont expect any med to perform miracle by curing overnight.
Hope all goes well!
