My mature Pearl Gourami has some fraying of his fins. Not a whole lot, but some. Once in a while, a fish will nip at his rear fins and make him jump. Also, my congo tetra has a split rear fin. Everyone else seems o.k. (It's a 55 gallon community tank) Should I treat for fin rot? I did recently have an albino cory and a rosey barb die (I couldn't tell of what though :sad) Should I treat the whole tank, and with what? My qt/sick tank isn't ready for fish yet. I have some coppersafe, maracyn-two tablets, and some Melafix Thanks everyone!

For repairing fins I have had luck with the melafix. I would try that to start. It seems to be relativley safe and doesn't harm plants or snails or other creatures.

possible mild colmnaris

Discus Page Holland -- Columnaris You may have a low grade columnaris infection.

Try salt first, melafix may help also.

If you need to QT a fish, you don't need a cycled tank or even a filter, just heater, aripump/stone and lid or netting to cover. Do large water changes daily and siphon all wastes from bottom, I've used 20 gallon buckets from Walmart, or $8 10 gallons from Walmart, keep next to tub
for easy water changes, just be sure no soap gets in water!
