I was picking up supplies at Petco... small gravel for my planted tanks, a filter sponge for my big HOB, ooh potted plants buy 2 get 1 free! I wasn't planning to pick up any fish (although those balloon mollies almost had me!)... but that's what everybody says! :y220d: I avoided the betta section until the very end. Then I ignored the males to see how the females were doing, not very many - maybe about 8. As I was looking, a flash of movement caught my eye in one of the lower rows. There it was again! I peered down and saw a crowntail female bouncing around like nobody's business. She was arching & flaring and practically yelling at me to get her out of that darned cup!
I'd also found a very pretty cherry red crowntail girl which I was tempted to get, but this feisty girl just wouldn't let me put her down! When I had the two girls next to each other, she flared and spread out her fins as far as they would go... adorable, really.
She's just over 1" long and has mostly blue fins on her dorsal fin but mostly red fins on her anal & ventral fins, with her tail being a mix. When the light hits her just right she glows with a teal iridescence. She also has the cutest beauty spot on her head!
Okay, I know everyone wants pics - and I'm happy to oblige!
She is in a 1-gallon bowl with my three new crypts and a large moss rock from my 10g. (I know... daily water changes! I can't put my small HOB on the rounded bowl. The bowl was bought earlier to be another planted project
) There's also for sure one scud (he was in the crypts) and one or two tiny mts (from the moss rock). Depending on her behavior, she will either go into my 10g, or into the 5g that I'm going to set up this week as a Walstad/Natural planted tank.
