I had my first small Discus spawn.Started with about 22. Started feedimg BBs at day 5.after attaching to parents.3 days later the father decided he no longer wanted to share the babies.NOTE is suppose to be common with smaller spawns(under 40) the parents will fight for the babies beware..Came home from work and 7 were missing,by the the time I figured out the mother was eating them another 3-4 were gone.Took the mother out.The father ate a couple of the weaker ones I think and some I put down because they looked weak hanging around the top not looking good.8 made it to day 14 but one got put down shorly after. Now have only 7 aged 6.5 weeks old.
You can buy a hatchery kit with all the instructions or have you got the eggs.
A hydrometer will show the density of salt to put in or use about 1 level tablespoon for every cup of water.Warmer temps of about 82 are best but room temp will work.NOTE distilled or Ro water will work better. If using an airstone kept it at full blast, don`t worry about the eggs being rolled about. After 24-36 hour the eggs are ready to feed.Turn the air off for 10 minutes and take out the brines from the bottom with a turkey baster, move them to a cup..Eggs shells will go to the top you don`t want those.Turn the air back on until you want another batch. These brine are most nutritious for a period of 24-48 hours after hatching after that the eat their own baby sacks to grow up.
Get a smaller eye dropper type baster(any Pharmasist will give you one for free)squirt the brine right onto the parents. Some will stick.
