Ok, so I have been keeping fish for about 10 years. I only recently began seriously keeping fish for about 3 years. This is because of a TFH magazine article that I read on discus. I LOVED them, but when I started researching them, I realized that I did not have the smarts to keep them yet. That led me into a long process of learning, eventually deciding on my major in fishery science. Several months ago, I set up a 125 gallon planted tank, which I decided, when it was done setting up with all my dithers, plants, etc. I would add discus as my centerpiece. It has all finally come together, but I couldn't find anyone around here in AL that sold discus. My LFS said they wouldn't get them because they weren't healthy. I could not find anyone in AL that bred them. But I lucked up a few days ago when someone i knew that worked at a LFS said he would sell me two for fifty bucks. I just got them. One is a turqoise, the other a pidgeon blood. They are both about 3 in. The pidgeon has some speckling, but the turk is awesome. I spent the last few hours acclimating them and I feel so fulfilled now that I got them. Hopefully in the morn they will be alive and well, but I just had to post that I finally fulfilled my dream and got discus. They aren't the best quality, but they are healthy fish and I really can't ask for more than that for where i live. But I can say one thing for sure.... I will breed discus one day and I will hopefully bring some quality fish to my LFS. I am absolutely hooked. Wish me luck in the future!
