Finally got that salt tank...

Ok - more research seems to indicate that they're fine now, the old ballasts were an issue but they've switched to electronic. Also the fans leave something to be desired so I'd probably purchase a light that's a bit overkill, and then hang it from the ceiling or a light stand to help minimize heat issues.

Lots of people said they're very happy with them though, and that replacing the bulbs to get the desired spectrum is the biggest issue.

Oh and that the above site (aqua traders) is crap and to get them elsewhere.

I have an oddysea 36" fixture on the 40 breeder. I am happy with the results from the light, but had to do a mod for the 36" tank to mount it. You can see what I had to do here.

40B is exactly what I want. I can't read the thread past the first page. This **** mobile site has errors or takes me to a sweepstakes site when I try to change pages.

It has a great footprint, I should have been a little more diligent in research before buying the emerald crabs though. Plans for a 40 reef are starting to look like it will be a FOWLR. It seems a little shallow for that though.

P.S. The emerald crabs were an impulse buy. One of the LFS's was moving and had drastic price reductions on everything. I think they were 50% off.

Did you end up plumbing a sump? Maybe put them in there If you have one and can catch them lol

The only thing I don't like about my breeder (besides the fact that I can't have a tang :)) is the height of the tank. A 50 breeder is about perfect (same footprint as a 40B but 2" taller) whereas a 65 is too tall for my liking. The cost difference between a 50B and 40B is pretty ridiculous though especially when 40B's can be had at Petco for $40 when they have their $1/gallon sale.

If you are committed to T5s, the Current Nova Extreme 6 bulb would be my choice unless I had the extra $ to spend on an ATI or Tek fixture.

BTW, you have plenty of room for more corals :).

^yeah the current is DEFINITELY higher quality, maybe I'll give their T5 a shot and move my PC's down over my fuge lol.

checked on my sleeping fish and Penny (female) was sleeping in the nem, poor Pabst (male) was sleeping at the top all by his lonesome :(

just some perspective on this project :D
