I know i have been bugging everyong for the last couple of weeks trying to figure out how to get this thing started. but i think i have it now. i've got 15lbs of lr and i will be putting in 30lbs of ls on tuesday. that will be my only filtration. i am running a aqua clear 30 for water flow and will have some lr ruble in it. running two power heads. a aquatic gardens 600 rated at 200gph and a unknow power head that i was running in my 55 malawi tank. maybe you can id it for me it is all black and on the very top it has 1120 sticking up. but i puts out some current so it should be good. as for lighting all i have right now is a standard incadescent hood. i will be putting 2 Coralife Mini Compact 50/50 Lamp 20 Watt in it after i get cycled. from what i have read they will be good enough for basic corals if that is the route i want to go. well here is a pick of well a tank with water and rock in it. how exciting. does anyone know what kind of rock this is???

Very nice. Looks like the tank fit perfectly where you put it. Is it possible to get a picture of the entire unit?

Where did you get the rock? Looks like DIY (manmade) rock.

I got the rock from a local reefer that was breaking down his tank. It was all in his ferg so it is probably not live now that i have read more it is probably just base rock. even though i did see a couple of worms on it. here are a couple of picks where my tank is located.

one more thing if it is base rock then what do i need to do to make it live. i am getting live sand tomorrow. would that seed it or would i need to go get about 5 or 6lbs of lr from the lfs to seed it. thanks for any help.

The LS will be dead by the time you get. Its a good way to start the cycle but any organisms that were once in it are dead by the time it gets bagged and shipped, they will be nicely ground up by the sand shifting in shipping. Using a few pounds of LR will seed the dead rock in time.

looks good by the way....
hope you don't have any todlers running around.
