Finding good shipping rates and shipper?

I have someone in LA, California, that needs to send me a package, in London, Ontario, Canada.

Its about <10LBs (its an eheim 2213 to be exact) and he says that it would cost $80 to ship here.

I dont know where I would check to find some better shipping rates, ..... Does anyone else?

With what method were they going to send by? I think the USPS would be the best way- you can check USPS.com for their rates from their area to yours.

UPS and Fedex would be more expensive because of the brokerage fees.
