Finicky New JD

Well, since mine is about 3" and looking a little thin... bah!

I spoke with the LFS again, and they said I could try to feed him freeze dried blood worms and then later on try to feed him pellets. This may make the transition easier for him. down the road.

His Oscar friend looks about twice as big as the JD now.

I'm afraid that the O may use him as a snack unless he packs on some girth. ;)

I would keep offering a variety of foods. Also, he's only been there a short time so could be settling in. It may take a few days of watching the other fish eat different things for him to recognize pellets or whatever as food.
Been there with other kinds of fish, just gotta hang in there & keep trying!
Hmm, where's the sympathy button?

Still Trying

Well, I'm pretty much at the same spot as before. I have totally taken blood worms off the menu and tried a variety of foods with garlic juice. He still ignores most all food.

However, he will try out the Mysis Shrimp (thanks for that) and garlic, but will spit it out after chomping on it a a few seconds. He always waits til the food hits the bottom and pecks at it like a bird before spitting. :irked:

I'm starting to wonder if he has a parasite, but he really shows no other symptoms for that - yet. I think he is just one darn fussy fish. Where's the frustration button ;)

Don't feel bad...I have an EBJD that does the same. He will only eat the blood worms...Actually I have only had him a couple weeks and just noticed he only eats the blood worms, I only noticed a few days ago. I am sure when he gets hungry enough he will eat.

Update

My EBJD seems to be eating the smallest amount of frozen krill and frozen spirulina brine. He'll eat a bit of the smallest pieces and spit the larger - if you want to call any brine shrimp 'large'. He still ignores all flake and pellet. :shakehead:

I have not given him any blood worm for 5 days now.

I'm seeing that many 'spitting' issues can be traced to parasites, so I'm still contemplating Metronidazole/Praziquantel treatment to be sure he has no issues. I'll give him at least another few days before going into any meds.

How is your guy doing MostlyCichlids?

Well he is doing about the same as yours...I seen him eat one small pellet tonight...he spit it back out...I also seen him eat a bit of the frozen food I make....thats it though...I may try some different frozen food this week....I think he will take pieces of live earthworm too but I havent fed that in a while, his weight seems ok so I'm not too worried....sounds like your guy is doing a bit better too.
