For about a week now my Oscar has not been eating pellets or other dry foods that I give him. He spits it out or eats a few and ignores the rest. He did eat the live earthworms that I gave him yesterday but nothing else. The water conditions are fine. Any thoughts on this would be appreciated. Thanks.

Is this oscar new to you, or have you had him a while, also if you have had him a while, is there anything else that has changed in his environment? I've known a few oscars to get finicky, bt in most cases a three day fast will change their attitude without hurting them one bit. Oscars are notoriuos for training their owners on how to feed them.

If this fish is new to you, do some checking to find out what he's used to. many oscars get way too many feeders and not enough variety which makes them picky. once again they can be re-trained, but it sometimes takes a while with a fish that recieved feeders as a staple. Feeders (guppies not comets) are great and IMO very important but not as a staple food like a lot of people believe.

I have had my Oscar for 9 months now. I have added more rocks to the tank to make it look nicer. I don't really feed him feeders anymore. I did when my dad had platy and swordfish offspring that he didn't want. I usually feed him three different kinds of pellets which I alternate. He also gets earthworms, blood worms, crickets, and shrimp every once in awhile as a treat. He's still quite active in the tank and doesn't appear to be sick. Today is his fasting day so I'll see if that changes his tune a bit :)
