fire bellied toads

Wow that's a cool idea I had a tank full orthem years ago and never thought of that I might have to steal the idea and start using that 10 gallon sitting in the corner!

oh, won't the toxins of the toad affect anything?
its going to be in a 50/50 20G by the way

i have a 20 gallon tank with a 20 gallon "cage topper" on it. pretty much just a cage on top of the tank. anyways i have fbts with fish and have never had any unexplained deaths

I believe the toxins that FBTs carry is a myth, or at least really exaggerated. I'll have to check to be sure though. (I'll never forget the time when somebody came in to work to get crickets and asked me for advise on cleaning their "poisonous frogs'" tank. Turns out they had FBTs.)

Here's what Wiki says:
It is risky to house any type of these toads with other species, as they secrete toxins from glands behind the head. In some individuals there is a spot of color, such as green or brown, where these glands are located. For this reason, it is extremely important that any water in the habitat is changed every few days or is filtered as the toxin will build up in the water and can harm the toads. Many species do not seem to be bothered by the toxins if the primary water source is filtered properly.

Another source says:
They are slightly toxic, sometimes even to humans
SO, wash your hands after handling. Of course, if you don't lick your fingers after touching them your probably pretty safe. Just cause a frog is toxic, it doesn't mean it will kill you! Some people do get nasty reactions, especially when they accidentally rub their face or eyes after handling the toads though, so you still should be careful about handling them.
I have heard that some people get allergic reactions to the toxins, in the form of a light rash...but this is very very rare.
They can however potentially damage other species! I got a letter from a visitor who told me that she put a Pac Man Frog twice the size of the firebellied toad in the same tank. Less than 5 minutes later the Pac Man Frog was dead...the toxins in the firebellied toad's skin had killed it!
(I don't really believe what it says about the Pacman frog. Who would even attempt that? The pacman would eat the FBTs for sure. He would've tried to eat them even if they were bigger. Though eating a FBT would probably harm another frog.)

It might be worth a shot, especially considering that other people have apparently done it.

I can totally believe that a Pacman frog would die from eating a FBT. The two animals are from opposite sides of the earth. The pacman would do what's natural for it and eat what ever small creature crosses it's path. It has no immunity for FBT poison and would most likely die within a few hours.
