Fire Belly Toad ?'s

What about humidity? Plan is coming together, I'm gonna pick up the new tank and foam stuff hopefully this weekend. Anyone know a good brand?

The humidity should be at least 60%. The best way to get the humidity up is usinf a glass top and getting a filter that creates a lot of water movement. Sponge filters work well beacuse of the surface movement they cause.

I picked my first FBT up today, I'll try an get pics + start a tank thread later.

Quick question: Can i feed them veggies/fruits? (I'll be feeding worms every other day)

Whoo! I can't wait to see pics!

FBTs are strict carnivores and should not be fed fruits or veggies.

will upload pics tommorow....

ps. I got rid of the foam and converted the tank to a more terrestrial set-up. There's an inch or two of gravel at the VERY bottom for drainage, then a few inches of coco fiber, and then the moss. I put a tupperware container in for water (3-4" deep, 10-12" long, and about 6-7 wide. I then built a small mountain over a log cave, and put a water bowl up there too.

The frog has been hanging out around the entrance to his log cave, and seems kind of lethargic.... How long should I wait before getting froggie # 2?

I would wait for 2 weeks of good health. Don't even start that clock until it has good body weight, clear eyes and it is moving around.

I think that he's just freaked out by the new surroundings, and I think he's been exploring some as I've found moss in the water already...

i went in and found him near the cave again, he moved a little bit, and is breathing normally... hope that he is just scared...

same activity as yesterday, he is either hidden in the cave, or is a few inches outside the entrance to it. I've been using natural light to light up the room, and a lamp faced away from the tank to keep it dim around night but haven't seen a change in activity.

I'm hoping that he isn't sick, although he looks fine. (normal coloration, no visible wounds, eats fine) I'm wondering if he isn't stimulated enough to go explore yet, and think that by possibly adding another frog he will become more active.

I'm going to wait a week or two like you said razz, but can you think of why he does this? ps. Pics will come in a hour or two hopefully.

Hiding is a normal part of frog behavior. New frogs tend to be much more shy than ones that have been kept for some time. Give him a few weeks, try not to disturb him too much ATM and there should be no handling what-so-ever!

He will most likely come out at dawn and dusk to explore and as he becomes more comfrotable in his new home, he will be out almost all the time.

If you suspect him to be sick, look at his eyes. If they look clear and have good coloration then he is most likely fine. If they look cloudy or hazy with faded or no color then there could be a problem.
