Fire Belly Toad ?'s

Good news and bad news. First off, I rushed home today to find that he had a new friend. Apparently, my mom thought he was lonely, so she brought home another FBT.

The good news is that both are now exploring the tank, and neither is hiding. I noticed that the original frog (the green one) looks plump. Could there be eggs on the way?

video in 5 minutes with a thread about my tanks + palus

Being plump could mean that it is a female but it is tricky at best to breed FBTs so I doubt anything will come of it.

They're really not hard to breed. Mine use to breed all the time when I was 10 and I know I didn't keep them under perfect conditions at that age. The real trouble was getting them to make it though the tadpole stage.

posted a thread with pics of the palu, everyone is exploring the tank. The green one (original and plump one) is still lethargic....

green one is still plump, and they have been making weird noises all night and this morning.... should I look for babies?

where would they hide egss, and any suggestions for what to do with them?

They usually hide their eggs among floating vegetation like Anacharis. If you want tadpoles you'll want to remove the eggs from the parents and raise them in another aquarium. From my experience the tadpoles will eat infusoria and ground up fish flakes.

no eggs, but both frogs are hanging out in the corner of the tank where a plastic plant droops down into the water... will update if I find eggs....

still hearing those weird calls coming from the tank now and then, they are both staring at that green plant that goes into the water but I have yet to find eggs or them mounting each other. I don't know if those would make a difference, but at night my room temp is around 76 and during the day it is like 68-70.

Just thoughts for the distant future (month or two) but would a gray tree frog live with the FBT's? I was planning on buying an automatic mister, building a waterfall with wading pool (2-3" at deepest with gradual slope) There will be wood branches all around the tank for climbing, and there will be multiple hiding holes around the waterfall, and up higher. Would Grey Tree Frogs eat mealworms as their main meal, or do I have to get waxworms?

I wouldn't mix anything with FBT's. The end results are never good.
