Well the title says it all...we had a minor fire last night - the only casualty was one pizza - and I didnt get a chance to move my water change equipment until it was too late. My siphon, a ceramic cup, a small net, an algae mit, a turkey baster and two buckets were near the line of fire. I rinsed everything in hot water, but should I worry? I really cant afford to re-buy everything. It was a type A/B/C extinguisher, and it was only used in one short blast, but was enough to put agritty film on the floor. What do y'all think?

When in doubt, bleach.

Bleach everything, especially the inside of the syphon. Syphon one bucket of bleach water and back again a few times.

Then rinse everything in clean water several times. Final rinse with a LOT of dechlorinator. The dechlor will get rid of any leftover bleach. Pay special attention to the syphon. Again, syphon from one bucket to another to make sure the rinse water gets all over the inside of the hose.

Don't get carried away and use too much bleach, though.

Hang the syphon -- if possible -- so that the hose is stretched out from top to bottom and let it dry thoroughly.

Hope that helps,

Roan

Order out for pizza next time............ ;)

First brush off everything as best you can. It is a dry powder and should come off easy. Then wash well with soap and water and you will be just fine. Don't lose any sleep over it, but remember that you want to rinse the soap off well also.

LOL!!
Im going to re-rinse, use a dash of soap and bleach (or should I not mix them?). Sigh....

Just use fragrance free bleach. No need for soap, it may leave a residue no matter how much you rinse it. Bleach is enough to get rid of anything that may be there.

Agreed. No soap.
