Firemouth cichlid

I have a 29 gallon aquarium with gravel substrate and I was looking to stock my tank with a firemouth cichlid. Could someone please help me by suggesting other tank mates that would be good.

Also how should I set up the tank? I was going to plant it heavily should I change my mind?

I wouldn't house a FM in a tank that small, JMO. By its self or with anything else.

rams would probably be a better choice. or an angel.

Blue rams or apistogrammas are my suggestions.

My firemouths would attack anything in my tank even my 7" oscar. I would just have a tank of firemouths if I ever kept them again.

I'm a little confused because every web site I go to says that firemouth cichlids would be good for even a 20 gallon community tank. I was looking at only getting one and putting other fish in with him. Would this be okay?

No, IMO.

I agree with Bob firemouths are too big and too active for that size tank.

better suited to something more like a 40.g

FM can get around 6"...I think 29's are only about 12" deep. Not a lot of turn around room.
