what would you say woud be a good tank for 2 firemouth cichlid, i have a 35 gal.

for a pair thats a good size tank. I had mine in a 29. now there in my 55 with other fish. are these paired off? iif so thats fine, if not you will want to get several to sex and mate up . then take the excess back to the local fish store. I have/ had 5 but they were poops and 2 went by by, and there is going to be 2 more going soon if they do not stop harassing everything there ever bunk mated to.. the female is the meanest of them all.

should i be fine with two firemouths (one male One female) in my 35 gal. with like 5 odesa barbs

Firemouths are one tough cookie when they mate up. heck my fire mouth made the one lone angel stay in her corner all day every day.
they will really pick on the others if and when they mate. mine did and never mated !

I read this on odessa barbs.....
Odessa barbs should always be kept in groups consisting of at least 5 Odessa barbs, preferably more. Keeping fewer Odessa barbs will usually result in very shy fish that spend most of their time hiding or sitting at the bottom of the aquarium. The stress from being alone can also weaken the immune system of the Odessa barb and make it more prone to illness.

Compared to tropical fish species, the Odessa barbs are used to rather cold water temperatures; from 14 to 22°C (64.5 – 71.5°F). They are therefore suitable for unheated indoor aquariums.
The Odessa barb will do best when you keep the water neutral or slightly acidic and the ideal pH range is 6.5 – 7.0. When it comes to water hardiness, the recommended dH is 10. As mentioned above, Odessa barbs appreciate rather cold temperatures and the preferred temperature range is 14 – 22° C (64.5 – 71.5° F).

fire mouths like warmer water

And I am betting that fire mouth will kill it fast.

Fishfiles...I will move this to the Cichlid Section for you, where it will get more visibility.
