Firemouth Help A.S.A.P. now PLEASE!

I have a 29gal. with a male Opaline Gourami and an unknown 1/2 grown Kissing Gourami (which i'm getting rid of :( ). I'm going to go buy 2 new fishes to add to the community, and I heard somewhere that Firemouths would be great.

Would they be compatible together?

Firemouth Problem

Well, I had a 20 gallon tank with two opaline gouramis and a firemouth (along with various other fish at the time) and the firemouth behaved well with the gouramis. But keep in mind that firemouths are cichlids that are intended to grow to a couple of inches long. Our's is about 3 to 4 inches now that it's in our 90 gallon. So it may be a little big if you've got other fish in there.

Hope this helps!

actually she said a 29, which in my experience with them is a good tank for them mine was with a pair of dwarf gouramis, and did great, the dwarfs are now in my 55 so he has the tank to himself

Young Firemouths should be fine, but the FM's I've kept seem to get quite territorial as they reach maturity, even without partners. But hey, every fish is different.

I would say a 20-29g would be great for a pair of FM's. So, what I'm saying is: keep a close eye, and if problems develop, know beforehand what steps to take or what fish to get rid of.

OK, thanks anyway because I bought 1 last night at PetSmart. :D there's a section of the driftwood I have that he seems to be fond of... he chases my Kisser out of it, but not my Opaline...

my FM is quite territorial and will chase anything that is smaller than himself, including my 1/2" smaller JD:eek:

well, mine isn't territorial anymore. I think it was just a stress phase thing in him...

newbie descrimination?

chill out, people have just basically been telling you to do research on the fish before you go out and buy one.
