This really sounds dumb, BUT...
Our pair spawned for the first time last night, we were thrilled! There were lots of little golden eggs adhered to the inside of the pot and the father aggressively defending its entryway. The mother has been shooed to the other end of the 20g long. The father is fanning the eggs without stopping. This morning at 8am, we were dismayed to see only 6 eggs, whitish and round. We thought perhaps the father had crushed them for not having successful fertilizing or something we didn't understand, but were still encouraged with even six. When we returned from Church at noon, there were lots of eggs again. I just checked this evening and they're still there. Do you think I just somehow didn't see them this morning? or has the female relaid?? or did the father have them moved like I've read they do to the fry???
You'd think I would have seen the eggs this morning if they were there, but good grief. My husband left just after I did this morning and said he saw some sort of courtship dance or something where the two met in the middle of the tank then returned to their ends, back and forth several times and then circled each other and then did something like the locking of jaws that we've read about. We didn't see this last night but it was obvious they were up to something, cleaning and defending the pot together. Within two hours there were all those eggs! I must have just missed them this morning, but why would they do the "courtship" thing if they had already spawned?? Thanks for humoring me with suggestions.
