First 10 Gal. Tank, First post

Update: did a 25% water change today cause tank started getting ammonia. trimmed my plant back a little, and also how can you tell if a danio is pregnant? I found out i have 2 females and one male, the male has been chasing the females for 2 days now. The first day the female was chasing the male around. water temp came down, its been like 90 and up for 3 days temp is at 75 or 76. I'm going to do a water test a little bit later and then ill post back the results.....

thanks for the help and support.

Did a water test today which is a day after the 25% change. Ammonia is back to where it was before the change, and nitrite levels starting to rise. I figure that means the tank is starting to cycle fairly quickly, also I'm using API stress coat to De-chlorinate I put enough to De-chlorinate the whole tank when i do water changes is that bad? I also bought a bubble wand that creates a wall of bubbles on the back wall of the tank. I hope this won't hurt anything????

thanks for any input......

Nice looking setup! I would disagree with jen69. You can dose the whole tank before those water changes if you want. It would be wise, since you always have some ammonia and /or nitrite present while it is cycling.

Just thought I would let everyone know my tank is cycling very nicely, I am in the ammonia spike stage and will probably have to do daily water changes over the next couple days. I noticed there is a lot of flake food on the rocks on the bottom, so I added 4 peppered Cory cats and they seem to be cleaning the rocks very well. Some of you might think that its too soon but I feel that as long as I keep on the tank levels it should cycle fairly quick. Last but not least my tank temp has leveled out at 76 for almost 5 days now. Thanks for all the support guys .......

The Harlequin rasboras are a really good fish to start a tank with, speaking from experience. I did a fish in cycle and did not lose one to the process. They are still alive, frisky, and happy. I agree that some low light plants will help a lot. Add them as soon as you can. I did a fish in cycle (owing to ignorance) and my Nitrogen readings started, and remain, at ammonia 0, nitrIte 0, and nitrAte 0. It's been five months. I think I owe this to the plants. The API master test kit is a must. Test daily if you are doing a fish in cycle.

Just Thought I'd let everyone know that its been a month since i started my tank and its completely cycled. I have also added 3 more danios and 3 cherry shrimp. My ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate are all at 0. My inhabitants in my tank are now as follows, 6 long fin zebra danios, 4 peppered cory cats, and 3 cherry shrimp. I think I might be at the limit wit that for my 10 gal tank size. comments welcome.......

thanks, James.
