Hi! I just got my first betta fish two days ago and just wanted to see if anyone has any advice to give me! I did some research before buying him so I know the general stuff but I have had trouble finding care info for baby bettas like what temp he should be in, how much food he needs, how frequently, etc . I decided to name him Gilbert and I'll attach some photos too for reference!

In general? Feed lightly. Test water until you know the tank is stable within your maintenance schedule. Do regular water changes, 50% or more.

Thank you for your reply! Like I said I did research but I haven’t found much info on babies only adult bettas. Should I feed him significantly less than it reccomends for adults? I have tested my water and I let the tank cycle so I’m not too worried about that. Right now the water temp is around 76 should it be higher since he’s a baby?

Liquid test kit? How did you "cycle" it?

Hi! I actually followed your post in the newbie forum and did a fishless cycling for 3 weeks before I got him. I have had some tetras before so I have cycled a tank before and got it setup but I want to be the best fish parent I can be for my little betta so I would love some betta specific advice! Especially for baby bettas because I haven't found a ton of consistent info on them. I have been using some test strips to test the water but I also brought in some water when I went to get Gilbert for the store to test.

Great! When you are able, get your own liquid test kit. Juvie betta care isn't much different than adult, IMO. Most the special needs is on raising fry to juvie status. Folks often post what worked best for them, thus some differences possibly on what advice you read.

Observation and WCs are your best offense to prevent an issue.
