Well, my female Ivory built her first clutch last night and now I am torn. I would love to hatch the little ones, just to see what they're like, how they grow, etc. But I can't keep that many snails! If all goes well, my QT tank will be available in a few weeks to use as a hatchery, but what will I do with them all once they over run the 10g? My LFS takes other babies, I wonder if that includes snails? I'm not too good about going to the post office, or I would try selling them - but I'm really not of the mind to become a breeder of snails. I think these will all end up being Blue and Ivory - since those are the two I have seen mating, interesting that they seem pretty monogamous - I didn't expect that from snails.

Any ideas or thoughts out there?

I also have a few questions... how long does it take before they start to hatch? If I move the clutch, how can I secure it to the smaller tank for hatching? What's a good temperature for the new babies? And recommendations on what's best to feed the little ones?

Thanks again for all your infinite wisdom.

I would break a piece of the clutch off to hatch and freeze the rest...for your more specific questions, the easiest and most in depth info can be found at www.applesnail.net . sorry i can't be more help, but i am sure someone else will chime in shortly! If you move the clutch (assuming its above water) you could probably float it on something like styrofoam.

Not necessarily with the colors. I had 2 mate (a pink and purple). I know who mom and pop were since I only had 2 snails. Although the babies were mostly pink and purple, I also had a blue, and a white. I may have gotten more, but I didn't have very many little ones (less than 20 survived from 3 or 4 clutches). I don't remember the details, but I think color in apple snails is fairly complicated. I know there's some details about it on applesnail.net.
