First Layer Pure Laterite

Has anyone had any luck with this product? It is to be mixed in with your regular aquarium gravel. I'm in the process of setting up a 29 gallon, I want live plants but not too thickly planted. I'm on a budget and this would be a little cheaper than some of the other substrates meant specifically for plants.

Laterite is a good substrate additive. The major downside is that it breaks up and, when disturbed, majorly clouds your water. It's meant to be layered on bottom, but over time it gets mixed up.

Since money is tight you might want to plan out your setup better. If you just want a few plants with low-mid light then you can skip the expensive substrate, you can always change out later. Changing substrates is not that hard, it's time consuming, but sometimes it's worth the wait.

I also agree with Jm about it needing to be layered, and if you have any heavy root feeders, like swords, you can always use a root tab.
