I set up a quarantine tank for the first time. Specs are:
40long (a little large, but I'm buying large fish)
berlin skimmer
seeded with water from my established reef (all 40 gal)
2 powerheads
2 NO 18w flourescent lights
1 heater
Some plastic hiding places

I plan on keeping fish for two weeks at a time, watching for trouble. If none, then in they go to the dt.

q:Did I do this right
q:Can I keep this tank going or should I empty it after every fish quarantine
q:Will the water keep for 2 weeks with this setup without going bad since the only filter is the skimmer
q:do I do water changes of any quantity while the fish are in there
q:If I have a disease problem and use copper, how do I disinfect the tank after
q:Can I have more than one fish quarantining at one time if they all go in together

Acrylic is covering the whole tank so the junk above won't fall in.
Here's a pic of it:

berlin skimmer <<would not bother with a skimmer, would be better to use a filter>>

<<For sure mate :) >>
q:Can I keep this tank going or should I empty it after every fish quarantine <<It should be emptied and cleaned after each quaratine process>>
q:Will the water keep for 2 weeks with this setup without going bad since the only filter is the skimmer
<<Yes, providing flow and heat are left running, i would seriously add a filter rather than the skimmer..You need proper filtration on this tank>>
q:do I do water changes of any quantity while the fish are in there
<<Yes, small regular water changes will be needed to keep water params in check, with it being a confined space and small level of filtration>>
q:If I have a disease problem and use copper, how do I disinfect the tank after <<Yes, it will need proper cleaning, a white vinegar/water solution in a 50/50 ratio. Just keep in mind that if you have used copper in this tank, i would not use it to quarantine inverts...just keep it too fish...Its not worth this risk, unless use use Cupri-Sorb or poly filter pads to remove the copper traces left over>>
q:Can I have more than one fish quarantining at one time if they all go in together
<<You have good space to keep a couple of good sized fish in a 40 long, unless your specifically treating, then i would keep one fish in there>>

Acrylic is covering the whole tank so the junk above won't fall in.

Hiya Tom..

Added some comments above in Red...hope they help..

As i said above, i would really swap the skimmer for a proper filter..This way, after a quarantine process has finished, you can sterilize the media and then throw it back in the sump to re-colonise with bacteria for the next batch of newcomers...Without a filter, you will ahve to cycle the tank everytime you need to use it..

Just my thoughts of course

Exactly the info I need, my friend!
Thanks very much and I'll follow it to the letter. I have an old Supreme filter I can use that did a heck of a job on a freshwater tank years ago. I'll employ it.,
Take care and thanks again, Niko
