Yay! They spawned! I mentioned before how I was freaked out that the surprise Gold Ram paired with my Blue Ram and was concerned about the result being unwanted hybrids. However, I was reassured that this was not the case.

So they spawned! It has been 1.5 weeks since I got them. They paired off about 3 days ago and started digging a hole in the substrate. My picture taking skills have improved but are no where near many of the photos I see people post on here (and a few pics I forgot to turn the room light off so they are over-exposed and colors are washed out on most of them). However, I still thought I'd share. Also I took a bunch of digital camera videos. I believe they are about 11.9mb so be warned, cable or higher to view.

Congrats on the spawn. What program do you open the videos with? They dont work on media player.

Yah its quicktime. Most browsers support quicktime movies. They don't work for you? They take a long time to load as they are very big files. I haven't tested all the links but I know the first one works. I'll test them out.

Hehe well that is very strange. I'd be soo sad right now if it weren't for my guppy fry being born and my ram spawn. I have only one sick fish left. It is my other female ram and she is acting very good. I"m afraid I lost the others. I lost none to ich but wonder if the stress of treatment did in some of the others and then the columnaris.... Its a lot to handle for being so new to this...

I tested all the vidoes, they work in Win IE, Win Firefox, and Mac Safari.

It works with linux firefox too, using the mplayer plugin ;)

I'd imagine you'd need the quicktime plugin installed on windows though.

I'm going to see how they do first. My intention is not so much to breed right now as it is to just enjoy the tank as a hobby (I'm still so new at this!). But its fun to watch these things happen anyway. Maybe one of these times if the fry don't survive I'll see what I can do to raise them. As it is, it looks like a lot of the eggs are gone. There are still some there and they are always guarded by one of the parents, but I wonder if they haven't eaten some themselves? But they are not all gone so we will see.

The movies didn't work for me either. The quicktime icon just comes up with a questionmark on it after a while. It looks like its not working for me.
