First Saltwater Tank (help needed)

My starfish ate one of my cardinalfish!

Also, have some brownish stuff growing on the filter and the sand/rock... any clue of what it could be?

The brownish stuff is probably either diatoms, or early signs of cyano. Probably diatoms since it is a young tank. Does it look like dust or like a slime is forming?


And sounds like your starfish is doing it's job.

Most likely diatoms then. Should run its course as the tank matures.

So there's nothing special I should do? I was going to add another fish soon, should I wait until the diatoms go away?

You should figure out what killed your cardinal fish. You are being quite rash and careless about this. Saddens me to see such an unfortunate death and a blatant disregard to all of the very good advice that is being offered you.
