Never kept shrimp before... I'm renting a house so im not alowed to get a masive tank so i brought this little 5.5g tank. so far so good (yes I cycled!).

Equipment:
Aqua One Clear View 100 (upto 40l)
Aqua One 50w Heater (set to 24c but rarely comes on, only on cold mornings)
Aqua Nova NSL-300 9w light
Elite Air pump and stone coming soon.

So far there are 4 cherry shrimp just how many can comfortably live in that setup? as they breed I can give some to friends to keep the stock down. any tips or advice would be appriciated :) and yes those plants are real.

Nice tank M8 looks good , I say you could go with 50 shrimp in that tank some people maybe say few less and few more but i think 50 is good , If you want to breed them you should start with aleast 10 shrimp but four is fine cant go wrong anyway you look at it

Did you think about droping in 2-3 Nerite snails they would look nice in your tank

let us know how you shrimp get on and good luck

and welcome to AC

Thanks. I'm not a fan of snails after I had a 4ft tank invaded by malasian trumpets, hundreds of them! there are some tiny snails in there that hitched a ride on my plants.

I added the airstone today, the water has alot more movement now and the shrimp seem to have gotten more active.
They seem to like the tank when I brought them they were verry pale with almost no colour now theyve gone bright red and one has even molted!

You can start with like 10-20 and let them breed to more, that tank can hold at least 50. By the way nerite snails dont breed like crazy because they only breed in salt water. I think you should add some more plants and maybe some Indian almond leaves or alder cones. One or two male endlers would liven up the tank an not bug the shrimp as long as you have enough plants for them to hide in.

Nice tank! RCS are great, you will be glad that you have them. I started with 10 and now have 100s.

Looking good! Nerites don't reproduce in freshwater, they eat GSA and are very cool looking. I am getting some Crystal black shrimp tomorrow in the mail and hopefully some taiwan fire reds in the near future. Good luck, and good job!

im waiting on my lfs to get some java moss in to grow over the wood and a java fern to go in the middle. ill look to see if they have thoes snails and give them a go. might also get another 4 shrimp to make it 8. its cheaper to buy in lots of 4 than single.

i lashed out and brought a digital thermo cause i dont trust the stick on ones and i have my light and airpump on a timer, so far this is the schedule

12hrs light 930-930
the pump runs during the day every hour and a half for an hour and at night it runs for four hours with an hour between.
temp sits between 23.4-24.4
