I have this 10g tank in the basement. Things that i am planning on getting this coming weekend is a heater and a filter. I have 30 watts of lighting over the tank at the moment. All i want is a foreground plant and a really nice plant in the middle or just some driftwood as my center piece so need advice on that to.

QUESTIONS???

1. I want good soil for the plan
ts, which would be best ?
2. In my lfs they have this foreground plant called hair grass how many bushes would i need to fill the whole 10 gallon ?
!!!! I don't want to do any co2 but i do plan on giving the plants nutrients weekly. !!!!
3. Should i go with a plant or driftwood as a center piece ?

If you have 3wpg and are going to dose nutrients, you will need to add co2 or excel, otherwise you will be growing algae.
Good substrates are aquasoil or eco-complete, but to be honest, I have had good luck with plain gravel with a little laterite mixed in as well.
Personally, I prefer driftwood as a centerpiece, it complements plants visually.

I just use fine gravel plus laterite mixed into the lower half, and I'm having good results.

Given the amount of light you have, I'd recommend at least using Flourish Excel, which is a liquid carbon source. With fertilizers and 3 WPG of light, you need carbon to help fight algae.

I'd go with a small piece of driftwood and aquascape your plants around that.

Another question that should probably be asked is what type of lighting do you have. Is it the screw-in incadescents, spiral fluorescent, or perhaps a fluorescent tube?

Good question... 30W is quite a lot. Maybe you could remove a bulb or two so that your tank could just be low light and not have to deal with a lot of maintance of having too much light.

Well i have screw in spiral fluorescent so maybe i can take one out and only have 15 watts of light...

***thanks everyone***

For my stocking list i have been thinking 2 dwarf puffers and 2 bamboo shrimps... Tell me what you guys think?

I don't know about the shrimp but I think a pair of puffers in the ten will be just fine.
