:perv:So I got this sweat deal yesterday at Petland where they gave out $8 dollar of free fish. I picked up a pair of guppies and 2 albino cories and placed them in a 5g Tank which is cycled and running for the last two months with only two plants. It seems like I picked up a pregnant female guppy since I've noticed her body is 2.5X larger than the male (with the big fan tail). How long will it take for her to lay the babies out? I'm anxious...

Its my first time with guppies. I know they are known to lay the babies every 20-30 days but was wondering since she is super bloated.. under what conditions will she lay them? The male and female swim mid-top areas - and they are enjoying themselves showing bright colors. The female is more plain colored though. The cories are the wild guys in the tank just swiming up and down the current from the filter. I currently do not have a light for this tank but it does have a cover; and only gets light from the natural sunlight from the window.

I would say get a ten gallon tank and use the water from the five to cycle it. ( and all the filter media) you need a bigger tank. The one there in is so small and your guppies will eat the babies with out lots of plant coverage. Also if its been cycled 2 months how did you cycle it? you need fish in to keep a tank cycled. is there more fish in this tank? tanks do not stay with out a fish or form of amonia to keep it this way.
in the long run your fish will do much better with a bigger tank, heck if you can splurge and get a 20. Guppies have babies a lot and you will need a bigger one then the ten gallon in a few months

good advice granny.
